Our down vest, made from nylon and filled with light-but-toasty duck down, is loaded with functional details, including a hidden two-way zipper, warm hand pockets, and a comfortable ribbed collar. It’s digitally printed with an exceptionally high-quality adaptation of Vincent van Gogh’s (Dutch, 1853–1890) Olive Trees (1889), in which every brushstroke feels tangibly real. One of five pictures of olive orchards he made in November 1889, this painting was Van Gogh’s response to compositions by his contemporaries Gauguin and Bernard. ""What I’ve done is a rather harsh and coarse realism beside their abstractions, but it will nevertheless impart a rustic note, and will smell of the soil,"" the artist observed. Van Gogh’s brushwork and choice of colors translate well to the layered structure of this quilted vest.

As part of its mission to collect, study, conserve, and present significant works of art across time and cultures in order to connect all people to creativity, knowledge, ideas, and one another, The Metropolitan Museum of Art invited Todd to design a wearable, art-inspired collection. “The colors and brushstrokes of Van Gogh, Degas, and Manet feel incredibly modern, incredibly relevant,” says Todd of the pieces he chose to adapt for this unique collaboration.
